The short version

There are no ads and no tracking or analytics cookies. Playing doesn't need an account; streamers can sign in with Twitch to get their own page, and players can sign in to choose how their ball looks. The game remembers your settings in your own browser, and the only things our server sees are the ones described below.

Settings saved in your browser

Your display choices, your last race setup and a series in progress are saved in your browser's local storage on your device, so they're still there next time. They are never sent to us. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them.

Twitch chat

When a streamer runs a live race, the game reads that channel's public chat anonymously, from the streamer's own browser, to see who types !play and the mods' race commands. Players' display names, name colors and subscriber badges are shown in the race. Chat messages themselves are never sent to or stored on our server. When someone joins a race on a streamer's own page, the game tells our server who joined (see Players below).

Players (your ball)

When you join a race on a streamer's page, the game sends us your Twitch user ID, username and display name, so we can keep a small player record: which streams you've raced in, your race counts (races, finishes, podiums, wins, awards) with the awards you got, and the look you pick for your ball. That's how your color, hats and unlocks follow you from stream to stream. Practice races and test copies never send anything.

You can sign in with Twitch at noballsallowed.com/me to see your record, choose your color and hat, or delete everything with Forget me. Signing in only tells us who you are (your Twitch user ID, username, display name and profile picture); we get no email, chat or channel access. If you never sign in, your record is deleted after about six months without playing.

Discord

If a Discord server uses the No Balls Allowed bot, typing /play sends your Discord user ID, display name, avatar and the command to our server, so the game can add your marble. This is kept only briefly and deleted after about 24 hours. When a race ends, the bot posts the results (display names, places and times) in that server's channel.

Streamer accounts (sign in with Twitch)

If you sign in to get your own page, Twitch tells us your Twitch user ID, username, display name and profile picture address. We don't ask Twitch for your email address or for any access to your channel, chat or followers, and we don't keep Twitch's sign-in token. We store those details, your page name and the branding you enter (which anyone can see on your page), plus a short log of account actions (such as signing in or changing your page name) with the IP address it came from, to keep accounts secure. A sign-in cookie keeps you signed in until you close your browser or sign out; it isn't used for anything else.

If you switch on Show my stream on the Live page in your stream setup, we ask Twitch whether your channel is live (using our own Twitch app, not your account) and, while you're live and your game is running, show your public stream title, viewer count, stream preview picture and profile picture on noballsallowed.com/live and the homepage, with what's happening in your race. Switch it off any time and you're no longer listed.

If you aren't on the invite list yet, you can ask for a page after signing in. We store your Twitch user ID, username, display name, profile picture address, the note you write (if any) and when you asked, so we can look at your request. When we invite you, the request is deleted. If we delete a request, we keep that record for 30 days (so the same request doesn't come straight back), then it's gone.

To delete your account and everything stored with it, email us (below). Disabled or deleted pages go back to showing the general version of the game.

Fonts and hosting

The game's pages load their fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google, which can see your IP address (see Google's privacy policy). Our web host keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and which pages were requested when, to run and secure the site.
